Is it possible to set up software interrupts within C++?

Answer Summary

It is possible however software interrupts are dependent upon the operating system. Each OS has its own series of signals, shared memory, semaphores and so on. Essentially one has to work with the OS's Inter-process Communications (IPC) to get interrupts to work. These type of interrupts are mostly used to allow process 1 to send a signal over to process 2 to tell it to do something.
